MAXIMUM IMPACT 2016 RESULTS

Published by Ross Watson

With the Halloween weekend drawing to a close it seems like a good time to reflect on the events from Saturday's Maximum Impact. Another stellar Greenock crowd ensured a great atmosphere in the Town Hall, and our fantastic roster provided plenty of action inside the ropes.

One massive surprise on the night was the crowning of brand new tag team champions. With The Hooligans unable to make it to the show due to transport issues it seemed that Grado & Kenny would be holding on to the gold. However, after hearing about The Hooligans backstage, the team of Krieger & Lou King Sharp came up with a plan. Sharp had been a planned entrant in the King of Cruisers tournament but failed to make an appearance when his music played. As we would soon find out, this was because he and Krieger were taking the opportunity to win their first titles in the company. As soon as Grado issued an open challenge for the belts they made their move. A hard-fought match ensued with fan favourites Grado & Kenny unable to hold on to the titles. It will be interesting to see how long Sharp & Krieger will be able to call themselves champions.

With Sharp taking himself out the running in the King Of Cruisers tournament, this was the first year that only 5 men competed in the annual match. Despite the smaller number there was certainly no less action. It was a fast-paced, high-flying battle with all 5 competitors showing exactly why they deserved to be there. In the end it was Chris Ridgeway who got the final pin, a year on from his debut in PBW. A very deserving winner, all at PBW look forward to seeing him return to the company later this year.

The PBW Heavyweight Champion, BT Gunn retained his title after putting it on the line against Davey Blaze. It was a truly first class main event with both men giving it their all. Even Blaze's manager, Charles Boddington, found himself being flung over the barrier as the two wrestlers battled it out for the belt. Blaze proved himself to be a real force to be reckoned with and one that Gunn will have to watch in future.

A final mention has to go to Greenock's own Lucha DS. While Lucha may not have picked up the win on the night, he proved that he absolutely deserved to be in the ring with a former PBW Champion and more than held his own. This was even acknowledged by Jester on Twitter after the show. After turning out his best performance to date, we predict big things for the luchador in 2017.

A massive thank you goes to the near 400 fans that attended the event and to all the wrestlers and staff who worked so hard to make it a success. The fantastic Mr David Wilson's photos of the event will be up shortly and the whole show will be available on DVD soon.
