JACK JESTER BECOMES NEW PBW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION

JACK JESTER BECOMES NEW PBW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION

Published by Ross Watson

At 7.30pm on Saturday 24th October the lights dimmed in Greenock Town Hall, the music started, and the 470 PBW fans in attendance made their presence felt as the 9th annual Maximum Impact show got underway. As the company's flagship event, Maximum Impact always promises to be a night filled with non-stop action and entertainment. This being said, never before in the history of PBW has it taken fans on such an emotional rollercoaster. With a stacked 7 match card fans had a lot to look forward to. There were title defences, the King Of Cruisers match, and of course the promise of a brand new PBW Heavyweight Champion.

The night kicked off with the highly anticipated 4 man tournament for the vacated PBW title. The first semi-final match saw BT Gunn defeat Liam Thomson in an energetic and hard-fought contest. The second semi-final match was between Wolfgang and Jack Jester. Much to the annoyance of the fans, Jester would stop at nothing to win, finally resorting to underhanded tactics to pick up the win over Wolfgang. This meant that both BT Gunn and Jack Jester would advance to the final match of the tournament, and the main event of the evening, to battle it out for the title.

At least, that is what should have happened. As the second half of the show commenced, PBW security were seen running backstage and it became clear that all was not well in the locker room. Fans did not have to wait long to find out what, or who, was causing all the commotion as BT Gunn and Jack Jester burst on to the stage. Jester repeatedly attacked Gunn with a steel chair, causing serious injury to his knee. It took for PBW owner Ross Watson to take to the stage and threaten to fire Jester for him to stop his assault and retreat backstage.

While the rest of the show continued as planned, there was an air of uncertainty when it came time for the main event. With his planned opponent now incapacitated, Jester grabbed the mic after his entrance and made it clear he expected to be awarded the PBW Championship immediately.

However, it seemed that it was not only the angry PBW fans that had something to say about this. Just as the referee was about to grant Jester his wish, Wolfgang appeared on stage, reminding everyone that Jester had not beat him fairly, and to request that he took Gunn's place in the final match. Ross Watson then took to the mic to agree with Wolfgang, not only granting him the match but announcing to the hall that it would be No DQ rules.

With the main event back on, the atmosphere was electric. It was clear that both men were determined to take home the gold at any cost. It wasn't long before the fight had spilled out the ring and through the venue, with both wrestlers taking full advantage of the No DQ stipulation. There were trollies, tables, walls, chairs and anything they could get their hands on being used as a weapon. Both men gave everything they could and more, using every ounce of their skill to try and gain the advantage. Just when it seemed they were too evenly matched, Jester hit the tombstone. The fans watched in dismay as the referee hit that long awaited 3 count, burying Wolfgang's hopes of becoming champion and handing Jester the victory he craved.

Although this might not have been the result fans had hoped for, there was still plenty to be happy about on the night. Leaping out of his comfort zone, Grado managed to pick up a win over Davey Blaze by delivering a huge splash from the top of a 10ft ladder.

The King Of Cruisers match was once again a highlight of the show, with all 6 participants wowing the crowd with high flying moves and fast paced antics. Of course, only one could win and this year saw Kenny Williams pick up the trophy for the second consecutive year. Ever a fan-favourite, the reaction to Williams' win was deafening.

As we look to the next PBW show in Airdrie Town Hall, fans can only speculate about what is in store after this eventful evening. They, along with PBW management, will surely be wondering in particular about what to expect from Jack Jester as he begins his title reign as the new Premier British Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.

If you missed out on Maximum Impact this time, don't panic! As always, Mr David J Wilson was on hand to capture the evening's events and all pictures will be up on our website and Facebook page shortly. In addition to this, you will be able to watch all the drama unfold as the full show will be available on DVD in the coming weeks.

Premier British Wrestling would just like to thank the Greenock crowd for being spectacular as always. We wouldn't make as big an Impact without you.
